ONE of the world’s top three dinosaur museums

Many dinosaur fossils have been discovered in the northern part of Fukui Prefecture. The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum has made research on these fossils as the hub of dinosaur fossil research in Japan. The FPDM has made research not only on the dinosaur fossils excavated in Fukui Prefecture, but also on those discovered overseas. A wide variety of dinosaur fossils in the gallery makes FPDM well-known as one of the three major museums in the world. In the exhibition hall are 44 mounted skeletons of dinosaur, which have gained great popularity for a wide range of generations from children to adults.

Look for real fossils at the Field Station!

The Field Station of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum stands on the excavation site where new kinds of dinosaur fossils such as Fukuisaurus, Fukuiraptor, Fukuititan,etc. were discovered. In this field station, visitors can excavate fossils using stones from the excavation site while viewing the layers where dinosaur fossils were discovered. They can also receive an explanation of excavated fossils directly from the researchers of the FPDM (the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum). In order to visit the field station, visitors must join the guided bus tour leaving the FPDM.
